Paresthesia is a medical condition characterized by impaired sensitivity to various sensory stimuli.
The variants of paraesthesia are:
DYAESTHESIA – sensitivity is altered and the person reports it as tingling, pins and needles or burning
HYPOAESTHESIA – sensitivity is not altered but only reduced
ANESTHESIA: sensation is absent
Dysesthesias and hypoesthesias are the most common and are due to the microtrauma of the needle and the gel integration process. They are transient and do not require any particular attention because the part returns to normal in a short time.
Anesthesia is also a transient event which is due to the use of anesthetics before treatment (in the form of creams or injections) or to the presence of a small percentage of anesthetic in the gel of the vial.
Although it occurs rarely, when the filler is injected into the nerve, damage to the nerve can occur. Depending on the severity of these injuries, the effects may be transient and reversible or permanent. In these cases the treatment consists in dissolving the gel with hyaluronidase.
